Hey there! Welcome to the blog. Here you will find your stories-of how much you are adored, how much love and beauty there is among the chaos of life. I want you to be transported back in time and truly feel what this season of life was like. Whether it's capturing your love story and where your family begins, to hazy newborn days at home, or chasing your little ones around your favorite outdoor location, we will create something beautiful.
As I left the house this morning, I could feel the warmth in the air. I *almost didn’t need a jacket!
With warmer temps ahead, I wanted to talk about timing of photos. I often get asked “what’s the best time of year to have photos done?!” I completely understand your concern; besides the financial investment of capturing your family as you are right now, you are investing time out of your busy schedules and it’s valuable time. You want it to be the best.
Of course there are a few things to consider though;
Depending on the season, sunset can be really early or extremely late. Since I try to schedule sessions about an hour before sunset, during the summer that means we might not start until 7:30. I can certainly work with your schedule if you have really young kiddos that don’t do well staying up past bedtime. We will work with a location that has open shade, or even do a morning time session. During the late Fall, sunset can be as early as 3:30 though. So keep the timing of year in mind.
Do you want a lot of skin showing? If so Spring and Summer sessions are great for tanks, shorts and lighter colors. If you want more vibrant colors and a cozy feel, you’ll likely be wearing chunky sweaters and layers in the Fall and even coats in the winter. So make sure you think about the feel you want your photos to have.Locations. Depending on the time of year, where you have your photos can change. In the Fall, a local park with beautiful foliage works well. Where as summer, the beach or stream can be beautiful at sunset, but too cold any other time of year. During the winter, more of a downtown urban feel can be fun, or an open field with the snowy hills behind you.

NO matter what time of year you have a session, the most important thing is that you are spending time with your family; laughing, playing, loving on one another. All while I capture your connection and love. No need to worry about “the perfect time” as there really isn’t one :)
My spring calendar is open, and I’d love to photograph you and your loved ones! Get in touch to schedule a session in the months of March-June!

P.S I haven’t participated in a blog circle in awhile, but I jumped right back in this month! Today I’m sharing a beautiful newborn session by Calgary newborn photographer Jillian Faulkner. You will definitely swoon over all the little details!
I agree! There is never a bad time to get updated family photos! Love your work!
Right! Just have to say yes to doing them :)
Love your thoughts here. Gives people something to think about and jump in and do it!
Thank you for your kind thoughts!
Beautiful family photos and great advice.
Thank you so much!
I love that you included a question about what to wear, helping to guide when to have a session. Such a great reminder!
Spring is my favorite time of year for family photos but it seems like so many love fall. Bring me all the flowering trees. ;-)
I agree!!
